PeerLink

A national network of young conflict resolvers, run for young people by young people.

PL Awards 2009 Workshop

Leap’s PeerLink project is a national network for young people involved in conflict resolution. Through their PeerLink membership young people from different projects, backgrounds and parts of the country come together at events to learn new skills and share their experiences.

PeerLink has an active youth steering group of volunteers who bring young people’s ideas to the project and help plan, present and facilitate peer led workshops at conferences and residential events.

There are over 1,500 PeerLink members, aged 11-21 across the UK. Through events, workshops and training, PeerLink works with at least 1,000 young people each year. Many of our members go on to use conflict resolution skills in their schools and communities so PeerLink indirectly supports work with a further 6,000 young people each year.

PeerLink works with both young people and the adults that support them and can offer:

  • A membership pack full of PeerLink goodies to all young members
  • DVD resources including ‘Resolve It’ – an introduction to peer mediation and ‘On-the-spot mediation’ showing how to use mediation skills in everyday life
  • ‘Squash It’ – a booklet for young mediators with advice on how to plan, carry out and follow up their mediation sessions
  • Ways of sharing news and ideas through PeerLink newsletters, e-bulletins and the PeerLink website
  • Conflict resolution training and networking events
  • A peer mediation evaluation framework to measure the impact of the work in schools (which can be used as supporting evidence for Ofsted, Safer Schools, SEAL and ECM)
  • A national accredited certificate in peer mediation
  • An annual Awards ceremony to celebrate young people’s contribution to conflict resolution in their schools and communities.
