Gangs and Territorialism

Young people involved in gangs exploring their conflicts and decisions.

For more than nine years, Leap Confronting Conflict has carried out direct work and research into young people, groups, gangs and territorialism.

Gangs may lead young people into dangerous situations and breed community division and fear; however we have learned that the friendship, support, security and sense of belonging they offer can also provide a platform for change when skillfully managed.
To date the team have worked directly with over 800 young people, delivering 17 in-depth programmes to 30 groups, with partner organisations in London, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Leicester, Burnley, Sheffield, Keighley, and Grimsby.

Leap has devised a training course for practitioners and has created Working with Gangs programmes for Youth Services, Community Police, Safer Schools Teams, Safer Neighbourhood Teams, Connexions teams, Youth Offending Teams, Youth Inclusion and Support Panels, Schools, Sports organisations and Outdoor Education centres across the UK.

We have trained over 700 adult professionals and practitioners in working with gangs.

“Leap provided excellent training for the Gang members – the specialist trainers were brilliant at identifying the causes of conflict and the way to react to it.”

Camden Youth & Connexions

“We chose Leap because we lacked the mediation skills to deal with the exploding Gang scene, we knew of no other provider who had similar experience or expertise.”

Community Resolve, Bristol
