Group Offending
Leap’s Gangs programme has delivered pioneering work with young people in communities affected by gang violence since 2000.
Leap’s gangs and territorialism work focuses on the choices and consequences of being involved in gang activity. Specialist gangs training programmes have been developed to work with gangs to explore the internal dynamics of the group and the relationship they have with the groups they are in conflict with. Leap’s specialist gangs workers also carry out, when appropriate, mediation between groups that are in conflict.
Leap has recently undertaken a pioneering piece of work with young women involved in gangs and material specific to the issues faced by young women in gangs is being developed and trialled in two UK cities.
Leap’s Gangs programme:
- Leap has worked directly with over 1000 young people that self identify as being involved in gangs
- Over 1000 adults have been trained using the techniques detailed in Leap’s ‘Working with Gangs’ manual
- Leap’s gangs work explores the key themes of safety and danger, space and territorialism, status and power, and enemies and revenge.
