Youth and conflict qualifications and certificates for practitioners

The Leap Academy provides accredited Youth and Conflict Qualifications for Practitioners.

The Academy is accessible, flexible, and provides multiple-entry points, taking into account your work, experience and qualifications so far.

Leap Academy courses and qualifications fit with the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). This sets out the levels against which a qualification can be recognised in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and helps learners make informed decisions about the qualifications they want to pursue.

In partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University, Leap is offering the following qualifications:

From January 2010: Certificate in Youth and Conflict
This course will:

  • Develop understanding of Conflict theory and practice and how it relates to working with young people
  • Develop competency in Facilitation, Mediation, and specialist group work skills for working
    with youth and conflict issues

    The Certificate course consists of 4 modules:

  • Playing with Fire
  • Training in the Creative Uses of Conflict
  • Prejudice, Conflict and Mediation
  • Youth and Conflict Fieldwork practice
    Each module is worth 15 credits at Level 4

    From September 2010: Diploma in Youth and Conflict

    This course will:

  • Develop understanding of working with young people in higher levels of conflict with their
    communities, and with other young people, through their involvement in gangs, weapons, violence and risky or challenging behaviour
  • Develop competency in facilitation and specialist group work skills for working with these issues

The Diploma course consists of three modules:

  • Leadership and Gangs
  • Young People, Conflict and Communities
  • Youth and Conflict Fieldwork Practice

The first two modules are worth 15 credits, and the Fieldwork module is worth 30 credits, all at Level 5.

Both Awards are contained Awards within the Foundation Degree Working with Young People and Young People’s Services: Youth and Conflict. Students will have the option to progress towards a professional qualification on condition they meet the JNC requirements.
