Singapore Minister visits Leap

Thursday 18th August 2011

Leap Confronting Conflict was visited by a delegation from the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs who have recently set up a multi-agency working group to study measures to deal with youth gangs.

They wanted to visit Leap to find out more about our programmes and how we’ve addressed the issue of youth gang involvement. They met with Patrick Dunne (Chairman of Leap) Peta Boucher (Director of Delivery), Amit Dixit (Head of Business Development), two Leap trainers – Nia Imani Kumba and Samson Osinowo, and two young volunteers – Gemma Vango and Joshua Brown.

The representatives from Singapore were told about some of Leap’s successful gang strategy partnerships, such as the work carried out in Strathclyde. Nia then outlined some of Leap’s gang strategies, tools and techniques. Samson and Gemma had the opportunity to explain about how Leap engages young people and develops trainers. They reflected on their own experiences, and spoke of the positive impact it has had on their futures.

We have had positive feedback about the session, and we are currently in dialogue with the Minister of State, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, about how Leap can support their gangs strategy working group.
