Leap on ITV’s Daybreak
Tuesday 17th January 2012
On Tuesday 17 January, Leap was featured on ITV’s Daybreak in a piece on ‘How I Changed My Life’.
Karl Balogun, a young person who recently participated in a Leap Quarrel Shop, was interviewed live on the sofa. He spoke about how he changed his life around after getting into a bit of trouble when he was younger and was excluded from school. He first heard about Leap through a local organisation called Lives not Knives. Karl then went on to attend some our training before starting his own youth mentoring project.
Leap’s training gave Karl the skills and motivation to begin to make a difference in the lives of other young people that may be passing through the same experiences Karl once found himself surrounded by. He now runs his own business, mentoring children to reduce the expulsion rate in primary schools. The Look At Me Now project has been designed by Karl and involves running six-week programmes for young people called “the future thinking workshops”.
There was also a pre-recorded film where Rene, one of Leap’s trainers, and Gemma, a young person, explained why Leap’s work is so important.
