Judging the PeerLink Awards 2010

Wednesday 28th April 2010

PeerLink volunteers in London and Yorkshire have now judged this year’s Awards!

PeerLink Hands

This year we received a record number of nominations for PeerLink Awards. As well as getting more nominations that ever before the quality of the nominations has been really high, showing just how many young people are involved in resolving conflict in their schools and communities and what a huge difference they are making. We had nominations for peer mediators, young people who are training their peers and adults (including the police!), anti bullying projects and volunteering as well as young people using the internet and making films to explore and resolve conflict in their local area.

This week 10 PeerLink volunteers from London and Yorkshire came together to judge the nominations and pick our 2010 winners. Here’s what PeerLink volunteer

Nayar thought of the nominations;

“The nominations this year were all really good! It was so hard for us to judge them because the things young people had done were all so positive, if it was up to me I would give them all an Award! I enjoyed reading the nominations and hearing about the work young people are doing all across the country, we also discussed the nominations as a group to hear each other’s ideas and feedback. I think it is really important that these Awards are judged by young people as we can relate to the young people who have been nominated, it is also really empowering to be involved in the judging process and for young people to be taking the lead!”

If you made a nomination for the PeerLink Awards we will let you know this week how you got on. Whether you win an Award or not, you are still invited to take part in the Awards on Thursday 10th June. As well as the Award ceremony, we will be holding workshops for young people and adults from across the country so it’s a great chance to get together and hear from other young people involved in this work., find out more here.
