Gang violence in Glasgow falls after partnership training with Leap
Monday 4th July 2011
The Violence Reduction Unit yesterday launched their 2nd year CIRV (Community Initiative to Reduce Violence) Report with some fantastic results and a case study on their partnership with Leap.
Among the most notable results were an overall reduction in all violence among CIRV clients of 46% with a further reduction of 25% among non-CIRV clients. A 73% fall in gang fighting by those engaged and an 85% decrease of weapon carrying. The results have drawn attention to the project which has been featured on BBC Radio 4’s today programme (05/07/11) which you can listen to here and a piece in the Guardian.
The report credits Leap with enabling partners to work more effectively with those affected by gangs and territorialism and creating a unique training programme providing professionals and volunteers with an opportunity to have a lasting impact by training as mentors for street gang members.
