Anti-Bullying Week 2009: Stay Safe in Cyberspace
Wednesday 11th November 2009
Tomorrow sees the official launch of Anti-Bullying week’s ‘Stay Safe in Cyberspace’ campaign. This year’s focus on cyberbullying, “which research shows one third of 13-15 year olds have experienced”, will give young people and adults the opportunity to explore issues around the theme in a positive way, as well as promote the safe use of mobile phones and the internet.
Cyberbullying can be done anonymously or by someone familiar in order to deliberately upset someone by sending them upsetting messages on their mobile phones, through social networking sites or over email. The aim of this week is to raise awareness of the problem in order to stop this from happening.
Anti-Bullying week emphasises Leap’s wider prevention messages that we take into schools, youth clubs and communities by delivering workshops to young people across the country. Throughout Anti-Bullying week, the campaign will bring together schools and youth organisations across the country to raise awareness of the problem and demonstrate that bullying in our schools and communities will not be tolerated.
Keep checking the website all this week for our top tips for tackling bullying – we will be posting a new one everyday!
